foray

I was lucky enough to find myself in the hills last weekend.

A friend invited me to Mushrooms + Toast, a collaboration by Hatch Labs and Ensō Farm and Forage, which was a special event to with a single goal in mind: to spread the joy of fungi.
Mara Rose, founder of Hatch Labs, organized an event to guide a diverse group of fungus loving locals through the practice of mushroom hunting. Teachings included the basics of what it takes to have a successful foray and the habitat of different types of fungi (edible, toxic, psychedelic, etc...). Our guide to through this mycological expedition was Michael Heim; owner of Enso Farm and Forage, president-elect of the Colorado Mycological Society, and a dear friend of mine.

The hunt was a success with pounds of porcini and tons of knowledge gained in only a few short hours. As an end treat, a beautiful picnic was provided by Cured and a delicous meal of mushrooms and toast was prepared by Mr. Heim, using the freshly foraged porcinis from the day.

I can't wait to test my new knowledge on my own and I'm very thankful to have had the chance to photograph this wonderful event.
